New User Information
--------------------
When you first log on, you are asked if you can support ANSI
color graphics and if you need line feeds. If you can
support ANSI graphics with in the BBS itself, you can
support them in this game. Apple's Proterm is the only modem
program so far that I have seen that needs the line feeds.
Basic Game Play
---------------
At the beginning of the game, you are given an amount
of money, from $4,000 to $7,000. You earn $400 - $800 a
turn. During your turn you can do 1 of 12 things. The
options are:
[P] Purchase [H] Company Histories
[S] Sell [R] Risk Taking
[Y] Your Statistics [M] Money Sending
[L] Loan From Bank [E] Examine Other Broker
[V] View Company [F] Force Stock Sale
[W] Wait One Turn [I] Information
[C] Change Set Up [O] Online Documentation
[Q] Quit The Game
You are given 10 turns per day. You can take these turns at
any time.
The Company Board
-----------------
Whenever you buy or sell stocks, you can view the company
board via the '?' option. You can also view the board by the
main menu option of 'V'. The board shows these vital
statistics :
1) Company Name : Name of company.
2) Current Owner : Person with the most stock.
3) Shares : Number of shares sold in company.
4) Price : Current sale value.
5) Holdings : Number of personally owned shares.
Buying and Selling Stocks, Bonds, CDs, Gold
-------------------------------------------
During any turn, you can purchase or sell any 1 company's
stock. You can only make one transaction per turn. When you
select this option, a prompt appears asking you what
company's stock you want to buy. The '?' Option allows you
to view certain companies or the entire company board.
If you select a number between 1 and 20, a new prompt will
appear that asks you how much you want to buy and how many
maximum you can buy. The main idea of the game is to
purchase stocks at a low price and then sell them at a high
price. When you buy things other than stock, you do not have
to worry about price changes, the % of increase in value is
steady. For every $1000 CD you purchase, you can sell it for
$1060. For every $5000 Bond you purchase, you can sell it
for $5400. For every $10000 block of Gold you purchase, you
can sell it for $11000. The interest is automatic and you
can buy and sell in consecutive turns. For example, suppose
you bought a block of Gold on turn 5. You could sell it on
turn 6 for the same amount of profit as if you sold it on
turn 9. Buying of these securities is about the only sure
bet in the game.
Ownership of a Company
----------------------
Ownership of a company can prove to be very, very
worthwhile. The current owner of a company gets paid a
dividend at the end of each turn based on the amount of
Shares Sold and Current Price. Dividend=Shares*Price/30.
Suppose you are the owner of a company, and there are
currently 3000 shares out (sold) and the price is $200/per
share. You would get paid a dividend of $20,000 each turn.
Keep in mind, you only earn $400-$700 a turn. Therefore
ownership of a company can be very profitable.
Loans From The Bank
-------------------
You can get a loan from the bank at any time, but you can
only have one loan at a time. This loan can be from $1 to
1/15 of your current net worth. When you first ask for a
loan, you are told that you have 20 turns to pay back the
loan and that if you do not have sufficient cash, your stock
will be sold. Each turn, the bank will automatically collect
their money and a message will a appear telling you how much
they take.
Taking Risks
------------
Taking risks is probably one of the most interesting options
in this game. If you take a risk, you have about a 50%
chance of having something good happen. Here are some
examples :
Good Risk : You Get Special Dividend of $X.
Bad Risk : Bad Fiscal Year, Lose Half Your Money.
There are many risks that you can take. Some are very, very
good and some are disastrously bad. Be careful with this
option.
Sending Money To Other Players
------------------------------
You can send any amount of your money to any player in the
game. If you select this option, you are asked who you want
to send the money to, and how much to send. After you have
answered these questions, the money is deducted from your
account and sent to the other person's account.
Stock Price Splitting
---------------------
This game has a built in safe-guard that regulates the price
of the companies. If the price gets too high, it splits and
all of the stock is doubled. If a company has a price of
$800/per share, and you own 1000 shares when it splits. You
will see that the price will be $400/per share and you will
have 2000 shares. You lose nothing, but the prices are kept
under control.
Company Histories
-----------------
By selecting this option, you can view the history of any
company. By reading these histories, you should be able to
get a good idea about which companies are good investments.
Forced Stock Sales
------------------
When you buy stock by the typical purchase option, you are
buying the stock directly from the company itself. This
option allows you to buy stock from another game player.
You can buy up to 15% of a person's stock in any one company
on a certain turn, but there is a 10% extra dividend given
to that person. If you force a stock sale on a player who
has 100 stocks of a $200/per share in the forced sale
company, you could buy a maximum of 15 stocks. If you bought
these 15 stocks, it would cost you $3,300 (200*15*1.10).
This option is very valuable when there is a limited number
of shares available of a certain company and you are seeking
ownership of this company.
Examining Other Brokers
-----------------------
For a certain fee, you can examine, or "spy" on another
player's statistics. You will find out these things : name,
cash on hand, companies owned, number of total stocks, value
of all stock, and current net worth.
Messages and News
-----------------
Each time you play the game, you are shown a screen of
messages and news. Messages from other people have a purple
arrow, and news messages have a flashing red arrow. Messages
can be sent by anyone to anyone or to everyone. When you
exit the game, you are asked if you want to send a message.
You can send as many messages as you want. News messages are
directly from the game. They tell you about things such as
stock splits and forced stocks sales.
